The Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry ("THE REGISTRY") successfully held its annual Pink Ball on October 28th at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong. The ball was themed "Phoenix: Rising Above Challenges," symbolizing resilience and courage in the face of adversity.
We were privileged to have Professor Chung-Mau Lo, the Secretary for Health, as our esteemed guest of honor. In his speech, Professor Lo expressed his support for the Registry's dedication to serving individuals and families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. He acknowledged the Registry's efforts in providing genetic counseling and testing to low-income individuals and high-risk families, as well as our contributions to raising public awareness and understanding of hereditary cancers. The Registry's valuable data also plays a crucial role in shaping the government's cancer control policies.
To echo the theme of the ball, we specially organized a series of charity dance performances with three different generations as the main focus. The opening performance featured 15 children who presented a K-Pop style charity dance, showcasing the vitality and hope of the new generation. Following that, five stylish and charismatic mothers took the stage, delivering an energetic performance that garnered continuous applause from the audience. Finally, the dance performance led by Mrs. Christine Chan brought the ball to a climax. This series of dance performances, spanning three generations, left a stunning and touching impression.
This year, we invited three cancer survivors to shoot a health video for the charity ball. In the video, they shared their stories of how they and their families were able to better manage their diseases with the help of THE REGISTRY. Our healthcare professionals also made an appearance in another video, expressing their hopes for the development of our services. These videos aim to raise public awareness of hereditary cancer and provide support for more individuals and families affected by hereditary cancer who are in need.
We sincerely express our gratitude to every sponsor, donor, and attending guest for their support. Every penny raised from the event will be dedicated to providing assistance to individuals and families affected by hereditary cancer, including genetic testing, counseling, breast screenings, medication programs, and research related to hereditary cancer. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
