HK Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry (The Registry) is the only charity in Hong Kong that provides services for the BRCA gene mutations carriers and their families.
Co-organized with Hong Kong Multisports Association, The Registry will coordinate a fundraising sport event, Race With Pink Heels in September 2011. Raised funds will go to breast cancer research, public education, free genetic counseling and screening. This will be a fun-filled event and a great opportunity for corporate/individuals to demonstrate a positive impact and help the communities connect with the fight against breast cancer.
FACT: Women with mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2 have an increase rate of 10 times lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and a risk of 50 times of diagnosing with ovarian cancer as compared with women in the general population.
FACT: Men with BRCA 1 or BRCA2 genes mutation are at risk of developing breast cancer 60 times more than average population as well as a higher risk of developing prostate cancer.
FACT: According to the statistics at Hong Kong Cancer Registry in 2007, there were 2,701 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed and 526 died from this disease.
FACT: Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women as young as aged 20 and the psychological impact on families stretches beyond the numbers.
